Continuing the theme of all posts this week being a day late.
This post is thanks to the amazing work of @TheYARoom who have been working so hard to unite the book community online when it has been impossible for us to unite in person.
After news of the cancellation of both Astrid Scholte and Katya DeBecerra’s Melbourne book launches being cancelled, a lot of us are disappointed but understand why these events had to be called off.
In addition to the novels being released by these two wonderfully kind and talented women (whom I personally look up to), there are many other novels coming out during this month and the next. Authors may not be able to get the reach and publicity due to news of the virus and various lockdown measures. So please, if you see an author promoting their latest release, retweet or share this news. Social media is powerful and if we are positive and supportive, the online world can be the escape everyone wishes for during this time.
After the cancellation announcements, The YA Room posted two posts on their Instagram (@TheYARoom) announcing digital, online launches of Astrid and Katya’s novels, therefore replacing the public launches.
The Launch Posts & Details:
Both launches being held next week will be hosted on the respective author’s Instagram and MC’d by Sarah from The YA Room. I am expecting it to be like a normal launch where there are pre-prepared questions being asked to the author and possibly a few submitted questions from the audience.
Katya DeBecerra’s novel, Oasis, is being launched on Tuesday 24th March @ 7 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Katya’s Instagram @katyadebecerra.
Astrid Scholte’s novel, The Vanishing Deep, is being launched on Thursday 26th March @ 7 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Astrid’s Instagram @astridscholte.
I am far too excited for these because it not only allows those Melbournians who would have missed the events to attend a launch but it also:
- Gives the authors the publicity they deserve (& a wider reach),
- Allows people who’ve never been to a launch to attend,
- People who would never have attended these launches can watch too!
I hope you can all make it! I know I will be there, probably also playing Minecraft at the same time too (hehe).
Please go over to @TheYARoom on Instagram and show Sarah and the team some love for all the effort they’ve put into making sure these launches go ahead and keeping the community in high spirits during this time xx
See you back here on Monday’s (book reviews), Wednesday’s (storytime/ writing updates) and Saturday’s (other bookish content).
