Hai Beautiful!
Okay, that title may be a few letters too long…
It’s about time I update you all on my WIP progress, methinks. Although, embarrassingly, I haven’t been writing lately and posting this novel has added that pressure that I thought I was ready for, but as it turns out, I don’t think I am.
If you are new or haven’t yet seen any previous writing posts, I am pleased to inform you that I am writing another ‘novel’!
It has been titled His Diary and is first featured on the blog in this post: Writing… What’s Next? Talking about my second WIP project (SW#63) where I outline the premise and the plan for the novel.
I will be updating the story on Wattpad with no real schedule. This is so I can receive real-time feedback, feel comfortable with my own writing and hold myself accountable to actually writing and delivering the chapters to those who wish to read them.
Outlining & Beating Procrastination
In my first Writing Vlog going live this Saturday (on my YouTube channel), I mention how I started off this novel with a full two-page plan of what is going to happen, detailing the beginning, middle and ending of the story.
The plan details all the plot twists and points of interest that are needed to make the story, although doesn’t go as far as breaking down each chapter. This is where I stuck myself since I am a major planner and need those crumb trails to assist me in connecting plot point A to plot point B in my novel.
Lately, I’ve been feeling kinda out of sorts with this story. I have this whole plan and really cool storyline that I want to pursue but for some reason, I can’t bring myself to write anything. The story just isn’t coming to me as easily as it usually would and it’s frustrating.
Part of this is due to timelining within the novel. I always find timelines hard to work with. Whether it be judging the day of the week or month or season, the thought of having to accommodate for these facts sets my brain into a spin and puts me off of writing.
Funny enough, I hadn’t realised how much I despised dealing with timelines until I chose to write a novel that deals entirely in diary entries and months, with each chapter being a new date within the story.
Another thing setting me back has been my lack of motivation due to full-time work and other commitments. Now, I can’t make excuses for not committing to hobbies but work has been draining the life from me and I’ll do an entire post about my work-from-home schedule and how I manage to do everything I do within a week, but the truth is. Sometimes I don’t. But that’s a story for another post.
So… After weeks of having not written anything at all – despite my 5k words a week goal – I decided that enough is enough and yesterday during my break at work, I sat down and outlined the next twelve chapters of the novel.
Yes, you read right! I now have a set outline for the next twelve chapters of my second WIP.
I thought I’d only planned out eight, but as it turns out, I had outlined twelve chapters and added almost another 1,000 words to the document, bringing the total words to 11,000 AND reaching the first major plot point of the novel!
Now, all that’s left for me to do is write these chapters in full and publish them on Wattpad for you to read and enjoy! Much like I hope you enjoyed this post xx
