I WROTE MY FIRST EVER NOVEL! 9 Month WIP Update (SW#62)

Hai Beautiful!

Today Is A Good Day!

Holy sheit! I literally do not know where to start with this entire post, but I want to mention quickly that if you are not the blog-reading type, I will be posting a video all about my novel on my YouTube channel, Jasper and Spice, on Saturday!

Okay, I haven’t yet filmed the video and I know! I know, I’m leaving it to the last minute but I’m hoping that the swelling in my cheeks goes down enough between now and tomorrow afternoon, when I will be filming. I was unaware that having my wisdom teeth stolen would be this shit.

Let’s start at the beginning of the end, shall we?

29th July – 4 pm

By this point, I had been adding to my WIP bit by bit, paragraphs and pages, slowly forming before my own eyes, until that moment in which I knew… I knew that I was at the end.

I hadn’t written for a good week or so and in the few days leading up to today, I remember repeating the same sentence over and over and over again to myself; “I need to write my novel. I need to write my novel. I need to finish my dang novel!”

With only the last chapter or two to go, I had set myself a single goal: to finish this novel by tonight.

Ridiculous? Not when I’m so close to the end with so much faith and dedication in my work. How could I ever fail? The real question you should be asking is “why?” To that, I answer: “for the meme of course.” The stupid meme in being able to say I’ve produced something after nine months of hard work is really worth it.

29th July – 11:59 am

But with only the Epilogue to write, I went to sleep knowing I may not wake up in time for work the following morning.

Although not before I let everyone in Instagram know about this (on left)!

30th July – 7 Am

I woke up at the ungodly hour of half-past six in the morning, starting my writing at seven, I spent the next hour and some concentrating on writing, refining and finalising the Epilogue of my WIP.

I placed the final touches, formatting and fonts onto the document and sat back, just sat back, letting myself take it all in. Take in the fact that I have written my first ever novel.

This is a dream I have had ever since I was in high school, writing fanfiction on Wattpad and never finishing anything. I’ve finally done it, and I made sure to let every one of my friends and everyone on Instagram know of it.

I think I stared at the document for the entire first hour of my work, truly not sure what to make of it. All the hard work I’d put in over the past nine months has turned into one final document on my Mac.

Suddenly, I knew exactly what to do with it.

A few texts to my dad, a PDF document and a quick email to later, my document was all prepped and ready to be printed!

And Now,

After a great and productive day at work, the anticipation for my dad to come home with my novel keeping me going, I finally have a printed and bound copy of my WIP in my hands!

2020 07 30 05.41.05 1 212x300 - I WROTE MY FIRST EVER NOVEL! 9 Month WIP Update (SW#62) I did not truly know what I would feel when I held those stack of papers in my hand until I did.

The overwhelming urge to read and read and correct and proof the entire mess that is my first ever novel overtakes me.

I flick through and read over pages but without a pen or sticky notes near me, I push away that urge instead, I force myself to write this.

The Facts!

Alright, here is what you’ve actually come here for. The real facts!

Word Count: 85,631

Number of Pages: 259

Date Started to Date Finished: 1st November 2019 – 30th July 2020

Genre: Middle-Grade Urban Fantasy

Names of the Main Characters: Alyson Dominio (protagonist), Lorena Robinson (Alyson’s best friend), Asteria Farrington (the evil witch’s daughter).

Blurb: Alyson is cursed by a witch on her way into school. Dismissing the words as the mutterings of an old haggard woman, she traces her usual path into the school. It isn’t until her best friend Lorena greets her with alarm that she takes the words of the witch for what they were. A curse.
Lorena and Alyson formulate a plan to track down the evil witch, their journey leading them to Asteria who gives them hope, a path and a way to the witch. This novel is full of family drama, dark magic, and a whole other realm that extends on what we know to be possible in our world.
