Heyo Bookaholics!
I’m not a teenager anymore!!
I’m no longer a teenager anymore.
It’s weird to say. I think this is the only birthday since I was 16 where I officially, mentally and physically feel older than everyone. I feel just like all the 20-year-olds I had encountered as a teenager, thinking that they were always on the other side of a transparent wall I couldn’t get past. Now I’m on the other side of that wall and I can’t get back.
This year feels like the beginning of a new part of my life that I am so excited to take on!
The reason I didn’t post this yesterday was because my day was so packed full of everything I was just running off an absolute birthday high! I had uni classes in the morning, ice-skating with my boyfriend in the afternoon, then dinner with my family at night! I closed out my day with some taxation homework (it was not boring and really enjoyable); and finished my current favourite book of 2019, Fierce Fragile Hearts with a good midnight cry sesh as it ended.
It’s crazy. Instead of doing a, “20 things I learnt in 20 years” kind of post but I think I did one when I was 18 and really, all my tips would be super duper generic and everyone has already said that before. Instead, I will be giving you two of the most important pieces of life advice that can offer.
-
Yes, school is important. So is work. But regardless of deadlines and what other people want to tell you; YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. If you are not happy doing what you want to do – whether it be reading a book, working at a job, or eating a certain meal – don’t do it. Make sure you have a plan, of course, but look after yourself, your mind, your body and your soul. YOU ARE IMPORTANT. PUT YOURSELF FIRST (where necessary).
-
ASK FOR HELP! I mean it. When you are stuck just ask for help. Chances are, whether you know it or not, there is someone who is willing to help you; maybe they even have the knowledge and/ or tools to assist you. If not, they may know someone who could. In today’s digital age, separation is smaller than 6 degrees and everyone is more connected than we think. THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE WILLING TO HELP YOU.
I hope these bits of advice help you in some way, or that you can take these with you on your own journey to adulthood; because you aren’t really an adult until you’re out of your teens. I don’t care what anyone else says.
