It’s A Novel Race!

Heyo Bookaholics! I started another project! *sigh* So, there's this thing that happens where I get an amazing idea; get hung up on that idea, and kinda have to roll with it. For some reason, I cannot stick to one task at a time and I end up taking on multiple projects -…
I Wasn’t Home Alone… (Short Story)

I Wasn’t Home Alone… (Short Story)

Heyo Bookaholics!

Unlike the last two StoryTimes, this story is not a true experience rather something that had sprouted from my wild imagination when I was actually home alone. This post is mostly inspired by YouTube storytellers such as LoeyLane and Hailey Reese who, with their stories are slowly eradicating my fear of the dark and the creatures within it, one story at a time. Their stories have given me the courage to write this story for you all today (even at 12am).

They had left me.

Finally I was home alone. I’d annoyed them so so much to let me stay home alone for the five days that they’d be gone, and they eventually relented; but now

Heyo Bookaholics!

I finally read Warcross.

If you haven’t yet seen my March TBR that was posted two weeks ago (please click the link and read it!), Warcross was a book that I had started at the end of Feburary (21st is not the end but who cares…) and made it my life goal to finish before mid-March. I did that and I have a bit to say about the experience.

warcross book cover - Warcross by Marie Lu | Spoilery-ish ReviewGoodreads Synopsis:

For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

The Edge Of Everything by Jeff Giles | Non-Spoiler Review

I was sent a copy of The Edge Of Everything by Jeff Giles from Bloomsbury in December 2016, in exchange for an honest review prior to the release date.

Hey Ho Bookaholics!

Wow okay so I’m back from a crazy long break at not posting due to I work and planning/ packing for my holiday (which I am currently enjoying), but because it is Review Monday and I have missed two Review Monday’s in a row (shame on me) I am bringing to you a very special review.

This is a book that has absolutely captured – and kept a part of – my heart when I read it in the closing weeks of 2016. If you saw my Summer TBR post, you will know that I included it in my December TBR which I had no hope in finishing, though this was one of two novels I’d actually read, out of the total seven books I planned to read in the month.

the edge of everything book cover - The Edge Of Everything by Jeff Giles | Non-Spoiler ReviewGoodreads Summary:

Then on a terrifying sub-zero, blizzardy night in Montana, she and her brother are brutally attacked in a cabin in the woods–only to be rescued by a mysterious bounty hunter they call X.

X is no ordinary bounty hunter. He is from a hell called the Lowlands, sent to claim the soul of Zoe’s evil attacker and others like him. Forbidden to reveal himself to anyone other than his victims, X casts aside the Lowlands’ rules for Zoe. As X and Zoe learn more about their different worlds, they begin to question the past, their fate, and their future. But escaping the Lowlands and the ties that bind X might mean the ultimate sacrifice for both of them.

Hey Ho Bookaholics!

This is a Tuesday post, and like I confessed in my previous post ‘Secret Life of A Book Blogger Tag’, I will post sometimes a day after the sceduled Saturday and Monday. I’m deliberately posting this today because I wanted to leave a day gap between the last post and this one.

the glittering court book cover - The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead | Review

Goodreads Summary:

Big and sweeping, spanning rom the refined palaces of Osfrid to the gold dust and untamed forests of Adoria, The Glittering Court tells the story of Adelaide, an Osfridian countess who oses as her servant to escape an arranged marriage and start a new life in Adoria, the New World. But to do that, she must join the Glittering Court.

Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies who appear destined for powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. Adelaide naturally excels in her training, and even makes a few friends: the fiery former laundress Tamsin and the beautiful Sirminican refugee Mira. She manages to keep her true identity hidden from all but one: the intriguing Cedric Thorn, son of the wealthy proprietor of the Glittering Court.

When Adelaide discovers that Cedric is hiding a dangerous secret of his own, together they hatch a scheme to make the best of Adelaide’s deception. Complications soon arise—first as they cross the treacherous seas from Osfrid to Adoria, and then when Adelaide catches the attention of a powerful governor.

But no complication will prove quite as daunting as the potent attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. An attraction that, if acted on, would scandalize the Glittering Court and make them both outcasts in wild, vastly uncharted lands…

Hey Ho Bookaholics!

Who loved Illuminae? I certainly did! So when I heard about the book launch and signing from Bri (@paperbackbri), I immediatelly booked tickets then begged my dad to come with me. It was an amazing night and you can read all about it in the post titled “Gemina Book Launch and Signing”

I’ve been holding onto this book for a while now, just waiting for exams to be over to officially start it, kowing full well I would have to devote time and effort to this book, so I placed in on my November TBR and hoped for the best.

And here it is; my long-winded, passionate review of the flawless sequal to the mind bending thriller, Illuminae.

Goodreads Review:

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminaecontinues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.
