A little reminder…

The Truth About Writing On Holidays.

Look, it’s good to be optimistic. I live my life as an extreme optimist but that often times backfires. Sometimes we realistically cannot do everything we plan to, even if we plan it down to the minute… and that sucks!

I know it’s the end of November, but as I mentioned in the last NaNo update, this won’t be the last you hear of my Middle-Grade WIP. I plan to write it all the way through to the end of December in order to reach my 50k goal.

But you see, this meant writing 600-1,000 words a day. Even throughout my Korea holiday.

Now I realise that they were just the musings of an optimistic fool.

If you have ever travelled to a country you’ve never been to before and have a list almost two pages long, plus a travel journal and the random intent to film + post daily vlogs; there is no way in any of the eight circles of hell that writing will be a priority. Especially when it is one of the projects that can so easily be thrown onto the back burner (at least for me it is).

So here’s the truth:

Ever since I landed in Seoul, Sarah and I have been non-stop exploring. We rise at eight in the morning and spend our days in the suburb of choice trying to tick as many things off of our bucket list as possible and just live in the city of Seoul for the time we have.

Seoul is almost a 24-hour city. It’s safeness and lack of crime allow shops, cafes and markets to be open till eleven pm which means we don’t usually reach our hotel until then. Tired and sore from a day of walking and full from eating everything we saw, we crash, choosing to journal for a bit while watching a movie, then knock out for the night.

This agenda leaves little time for writing. Unless, on the odd occation such as this one where we have nothing to do and have planned to bring our laptops out to a cafe, then maybe a couple hundred words will be written. Other than that… time to write is almost non-existent.

With that being said, here is the usual weekly progress report, showing that within the seven days I have been in Seoul, I have only written 1,653 words.

This progress update will take off from the Week 3 Update post which I posted a week ago. I will be showing analytics from the 23th to the 30th of November only, previous data can be found in the first and second update posts.

Once again, the first image is my – now updated – dashboard from Pacemaker, showing the number of words written (green) and what I have to do to reach 50k (blue). The high peaks are approximately 1,000 words and the low ones 600 words, as previously mentioned.

The second table is from my own tracker which shows three numerical columns. The first two being estimated daily and estimated total word counts; the last one being actual accumulated word count. Essentially, just focus on the last column.

Current Word Count: 21,653

Tonight’s goal: 22,000
