Heyo Bookaholics!
NaNoWriMo is nearly upon us.
As promised on my Twitter (@thebookishbree), in lieu of posting a review today I have chosen to let you all in on my now not-so-secret NaNoWriMo Project!
If you do not know what NaNoWriMo is, I’ve snatched a description off of Wikipedia which sums up the event perfectly:
“National Novel Writing Month, is an annual, Internet-based creative writing project that takes place during the month of November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000-word manuscript between November 1 and November 30. Well-known authors write “pep-talks” to keep them motivated throughout the process.”
You can read more about it on the website nanowrimo.org.
It’s 9 days until the event begins on November 1st and I am counting down the days until I can start writing my next project. I have another project going that I wish to finish before the end of the year, but I’ll either be writing that at the same time or put it on hold briefly to complete NaNoWriMo.
This year, I am determined to write a complete novel for NaNoWriMo!
Enough blabbering, I’m sure you want to know all about the inspiration for the book I’m planning to write and more importantly, it’s title. Plus I’ll add in some Pinterest board pics and links so you can follow my planning process from now through to the end of November (and onwards).
About The Book!
Wattpad needs no introduction. It’s been around since x and is the home of the widest range of fan fiction and other written works; it was also once the home of The Kissing Booth51 and After both are popular with teens and are getting – or already have – their own movies. Wattpad is also the place where I published my first piece of writing under the pseudonym coldcoco. You can still find some of my stuff up there now. I am not too happy about the works but I keep them up for two reasons:
1. I want to see how far I’ve come, and
2. I’m lazy af.
I wrote this ‘thing’ called Realise, way back in December of 2014, when I was in year 9 (only 16 years old). I call it a ‘thing’ as it was in the strange poem style that some Wattpad writers write in, probably so we didn’t have to spend time writing long ass chapters, I’m not too sure, but I did it and apparently, lots of people liked it. As of today, it has received 1,550 views and 123 stars, and some amazing feedback (surprising me).
Realise was initially published on Wattpad as a 24 part story (cover on left).
Realise is a story that had no plan. It just kinda happened and boy I enjoyed that. Now I think about it, the plot of the story is essentially about a love triangle in which the main character is loved by someone whom they cannot love back but is instead in love with someone else who doesn’t even know and cannot reciprocate those feelings.
It’s a big mess!
There’s a plot twist at the end!
It’s all happening!
But why would I take a work that I have finished to use in a writing project where the whole aim is to write a new book?
Well easy. As I just said, “It’s a big mess!”
For NaNoWriMo, writers usually plan out their story about a month in advance, have their Pinterest boards up and full of inspiration pics ready for the big start on November 1st. But I’m a little different. You see, my initial plan was to just write my own novel The Inversion throughout the month of November and try and reach a goal by logging the progress on NaNoWriMo, but I began nostalgically reading through my Wattpad works one night and had the bright idea to re-write Realise.
Thus the Pinterest board and Google Document was born, the only question was when to write? Well since the original Realise is only a story told in very brief detail, through text messages and conversations of a few lines it really was just a story plan in itself.
So yeah, that’s where I decided that I technically will not be cheating in this project and I currently have a plan (for once in my writing life!), a Pinterest board, and a document ready to go for November 1!
The Pinspo!
My whole plan for the Pinterest board is to help me kind of get to know my characters in a series of pictures. I have their images and mannerisms in my head but I don’t really know what they look like and some tiny quirks they have or even sh*t they say (which is mostly denoted by tumblr posts oops). You can visit this board here, or by clicking the image above and get to know my characters along with me!
As you can tell I am super excited for this year’s writing project and I cannot wait to revamp this piece and just give my characters and story more depth and have everyone fall in love with them all over again!
Are you participating in NaNoWriMo?
If so, are you prepared? What is your plan?
