Hey Ho Bookaholics!

So after much nagging from Tracy (@trufflebooks in Instagram), I have started this series and well let’s just say that I was warned and it truly was a rollercoaster.

Goodreads Summary:

Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

Review

Sarah J. Maas is great at making the reader think they know what is coming next in the story; freaking them out; then revealing what it is along with a breath of relief as it isn’t what they thought. In other words. S.J.M freaked me out on more than one occasion.

The Bore

I was informed by Tracy that the book would start really slowly, and well she was right. This was The Bore. If this book wasn’t a massively hyped trilogy, I probably would’ve picked up a second book after about 50 pages due to how long it took for action to happen.

Also the book did not live up to the hype surrounding this series, but I assume that all the excitement is aimed at ACOMAF, which I have told is a lot better and more LOS quality.

What I Was Told (and how I felt)

Tracy (again) said thatI would probably get annoyed at Feyre as she makes stupid and irrational decisions over the course of the book, and who doesn’t hate when a character does that? I know I do, but I found that all of Feyre’s actions were very justified, except when she chased the Naga; that was silly, although I see why she may’ve been fooled. She’d found a way out and wanted to take it.

Furthermore, I was also told by another friend, Armani, that I would (and I quote) “love [Lucian] in acowar even more” and I honestly don’t doubt that as I love Lucien! But both my friends do not like Nesta… this worries me for ACOMAF and ACOWAR.

Trope

My first thought upon realising what had happened was: “Why Sarah!?” But as I kept reading, I started praising her for being able to slip in the Chosen One trope over half way through the book! That’s just crazy, and because of that praise the appearance of the trope didn’t actually bother me and I embraced it.

Rhysand, Tamlin, and How Spoilers Made Me Bias

I knew, way before I even thought of reading this book that Rhysand and Feyre get togetehr, so when I started the book I was waiting for Rhysand to apprear; and gues who was shocked to hear the Feyre is doing the funky with a man named Tamlin. This girl was shook! It was because of this spoiler that made me dislike Tamlin and easily forgive Rhysand when anything went wrong.

Though I had no reason at all to hate Tamlin (asside from him not being Rhysand), I loved Lucien. I have never heard about him and I felt that he had all this motives were laid flat and he wouldn’t take shit from anyone, and he especially didn’t want to hide anything from Feyre but did so because Tamlin told him to.

The Steamy Stuff

Well. I didn’t realise that they would do the sexy in this book. I was bracing myself for this stuff in ACOMAF, and damn I was shocked! I’d say we’ve all read our fair share of fanfiction and ‘smut’, but nothing is as pure and passionate as what S.J.M illustrates in this book. It makes the reader want to experience the same sense of pleasure that Feyre is experiencing.

I gave this book a ★★★★ (4/5 stars) on Goodreads; and please don’t kill me because I do have my reasons. I read – and I still can’t get over – Lord of Shadows (LOS) prior to ACOTAR, and because this book is in the same High Fantasy category as LOS, I felt it appropriate to compare the two, and ACOTAr doesn’t even come close to the quality and emotional trauma of LOS.
