Read, Rewrite, Burn Book Tag

Hey Ho Bookaholics and Humans Alike,

I’ve seen this Read, Rewrite, Burn Book Tag on a fair few bookish YouTube accounts, in which they do a longer video with many many books. I thought I’d do a modified version where I take three books I was sent for review and am yet to read, and chose, based off the blurb and first chapters alone, which book I will Read, Rewrite, and Put Down (because burning seems to harsh for a book that I have yet to read).

The books I have chosen are all from a very similar genre and have all been sent to me by Allen & Unwin (this post is not sponsored).

The books I have chosen are:

  • Girl In Between by Anna Daniels
  • Love, Lies & Linguine by Hilary Spiers
  • Storm and Grace by Kathryn Heyman

I will be reading a chapter, or 5 pages from each book and making a judgement based off of those pages alone. This is a little fun game I wanted to play in order to decide which book I should read to finish off my rocky road of a year that was 2017.

Before I begin, I want to add a disclaimer saying that these are not my actual opinions of the books as I have not fully read them yet. This is just a fun post that based on a brief description and first chapters of these books and I have placed them into really stiff categories. I will also comment on what lead me to categorising the books in the way I did.

Read:

Storm and Grace. The blurb of this book is longer than your average one, and though not giving away anything reeled me in convincing me to want to read the book as soon as I’d finished the blurb. Like many first chapters, I was confused. The writing was far more artistic than the blurb intended, captivating me to read more and quite literally dive into the novel. Though as a book to read before December ends, I feel it will need more sit down and think time.

Rewrite:

Girl In Between. Even before reading the first chapter, I noticed that this book is the smallest of the three, though not letting that sway my judgement I proceeded to read the first chapter (with it’s larger than normal lettering). I found that the writing in this book is very light hearted and airy, which I guess is the supposed vibe, but I guess the captivating, descriptive writing of YA novels I have come to love is something I would think about adding  when rewriting this book.

Put Down (Burn):

Love, Lies and Linguine. Aside from the fact that I haven’t read the first book in the series, I read only the first page and I felt kind of what I can only describe as ‘meh’. Which may seem a little mean, and I don’t know if it the fact that I am unfamiliar with the characters, or the writing didn’t draw me in as instantly as Storm and Grace did. But I’m going to let this book sit for a while before I pick it up again.

Book To End 2017: I have chosen to read the captivating Storm and Grace to end my love filled 2017. It seems like the perfectly captivating book that will grab my heart and yank it till it tears, and I tear up (man I hate the english language).

I hope you enjoyed this post! Please let me know in the comments below if you’ve read any of these books and what you think of them.
