Talking before the review!
Day 17 of #FinnFuryRevolution is an interesting one. @PaperFury and @MiriamJoyReads gets us thinking about our current read, and critiquing it in an unusual way.
I’m not sure about you, but when I read books I usually think about the pros, cons and components I’d like to include in a review, I’m usually not thinking about what I’d like to change about the novel. It just never felt right to do so; but here I am, critiquing a novel that I am nowhere near finished with.
Current Read: Imprison The Sky by A. C. Gaughen
To be released on the 22nd of January, This novel is the sequel to Reign The Earth a book of which I wrote a semi-spoiler review for.
Getting straight to the point: this novel does not start where the other one ended and that confused the living hell out of me!
As mentioned many times before in multiple posts, I steer clear from reading synopsis of novels before I read the book so I do not have any form of expectations going in to the book; but in some cases, especially with sequels, I feel the need to resort to reading the blurb to actually understand what is going on.
If there is one thing I would change about the novel (mentioned above), it would be to make it have an identifier at the beginning of the novel saying who’s point-of-view we are reading from. This would work the best with the actual story that is going on. The author also could’ve prefaced the novel with a prologue that maybe transition from one book to the other.
This is my take on the novel at 50 pages in, so all of these views are very subjective and solely based on my expectations going into the novel, with not enough reading to separate this novel from its predecessor.
Is there anything you don’t like about your current read that you’d change??
How would you go about changing these??
