Of all the books I’ve ever seen, this one is by far the shiniest.

It is titled Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story by David Levithan, and is a play written as a companion book to his (and John Green’s) bestseller, Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

It centers on the life of the playwright, Tiny Cooper, his life and his many boyfriends, from 1 through to 18 including the latest and most heart-breaking Will Grayson.

It’s Tiny Cooper’s turn in the spotlight in this companion novel to New York Times bestseller Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

Jazz hands at the ready! Tiny Cooper (“the world’s largest person who is also really, really gay”) stole readers’ hearts when he was introduced to the world in the New York Times bestselling book Will Grayson, Will Grayson, co-authored by John Green and David Levithan. Now Tiny finally gets to tell his story—from his fabulous birth and childhood to his quest for true love and his infamous parade of ex-boyfriends—the way he always intended: as a musical! Filled with honesty, humor, and “big, lively, belty” musical numbers, the novel is told through the full script of the musical first introduced in Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

Description from Goodreads.

I won’t lie and say it was amazing and fabulous and the best book I’ve ever read because it isn’t by far. It wasn’t all that I hoped for, especially after reading Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

I was expecting more of the show-stopping, scandalous, fabulous Tiny Cooper that we saw in the previous book; and less of the boring technical stuff like “cue piano intro”. But what did I expect? I was reading a play for goodness sake. Those things are always a pain to read.

For anyone who has read Will Grayson, Will Grayson, and formed a deep-rooted love for Tiny – actually, who am I kidding! Everyone who read that book fell in love with the BFG that is Tiny Cooper – and if you want to know more about the ins and outs of his life and the extravagant play, I do recommend you read this book. It’s small but pretty inciteful, and maybe not as painful to read as I described.

Till Tomorrow,

Bree xx
