November TBR Pile

November TBR Pile

Heyo Bookaholics!

November is halfway done!

I’ve been horrible with my posting schedule this month. Assignments, work and expectations have been holding me back, but I’ve reminded myself to not abandon my books; to keep reading to relax and refresh my brain.

Trying new things is always fun, especially if they’re out of your comfort zone. This month I’ve chosen to pick up the full Percy Jackson series, something I’ve been putting off doing for years. Not because I had no interest in Percy’s story, but because I just didn’t feel drawn to reading about Greek mythology.

Recently I’ve gotten into a brilliant podcast called Myths and Legends. You can find it on Spotify, Apple podcasts, or anywhere you get podcasts. It’s amazing and the host, Jason Weizer tells the myths so well, sometimes quoting the text and other times adding in his own modern-day commentary.

I want to preface this by saying that I am in no way meaning this next bit as an insult, but just my views on the Greek myths.

Listening to the stories of the Greek myths, they all have the same strong themes of angry powerful men, misogyny, rape and unconsentual sex (I’m looking at you Zeus), as well as horrible punishments to the innocent female victims from Hera, but also Athena in the case of Medusa. I know that some of these themes show up in my beloved Norse myths but not in the excessive ways it does in Greek mythology.

Anyways, these stories really made me question if I wanted to read more about these Gods if the books will be overlooking all of the disastrous actions that took place. I had a strange conflict with myself that I can’t put into words, but in the end, I settled on reading about Percy and his gang or I know that I would feel eternally empty.

I made a video talking more about my TBR which you can watch by clicking this link or on the video below. It would mean so much if you gave it a watch and some feedback in the comments below.

Reading Status?

Since it’s already the 18th of November, I have started reading these books, I am currently on the third book in the series, Percy Jackson and The Titan’s Curse.
