The Positives of Reading & How it Improved my Marks! Storytime Wednesday.

Heyo Bookaholics!

This Storytime Wednesday isn’t a short story like the last few weeks, rather a little life lesson on why reading is positive and how it can benefit your school marks, speech, and social skills. I will be talking of my own experiences that have lead me to believe that reading can improve everything.

I want to begin by saying that I am in no way saying that you are wrong in your choice not to pick up a book, and I am not here to tell you what you should read, because any book/ magazine/ educational document/ etc. will give you some benefit. I just want to say that yes reading is amazing for your brain and here is proof!

Over my years of reading, the knowledge I have obtained – whether it be fictional or fact – I have managed to incorporate into a conversation as well as use random facts to entertain or prompt further research into the topic at hand. Books make you question things in your day to day life, as everything is really not as it seems, especially when seeing things through a characters’ eyes can change your perception of the world depending on how the characters’ views and morals align with your own.

In my experience, I saw a dramatic increase in my English marks when I started reading again after putting my reading on hold for well over a year. In year 12, English wasn’t my strongest subject so I was putting a lot more effort into it, and less into my recreational reading; but when I decided to pick up a book prior to major assignment, my mark increased by 10%, and if that doesn’t say anything about the benefits of reading then I’m not sure what does.

There is also a great impact socially when you read, as a well written novel can give you the words, phrases, etc. needed to hold a decent conversation, or even just an engaging one. Books tend to unite people, especially those who want to talk about the same book or others looking for a recommendation; or maybe you can just fill the silent void with your knowledge of how salt circles repel evil.

.

Stay Happy, Healthy, and have a Lovely Week!!

Thank You so much for reading! I hope to see you all back here on Saturday 🙂
