Heyo Bookaholics!
Last night I attended the book launch for Tin Heart by Shivaun Plozza. The event was located at Dymocks in Melbourne’s City, and hosted by Allen & Unwin and Inside a Dog – who are responsible for The Inky Awards of which the longlists have already been released.
It was such an amazing night! There was lots of laughter, chatter, and socialisation especially on my part.
The MC for the night was 16 year-old Aida, who came in contact with Shivaun last year when Shivaun’s book Frankie was shortlisted for The Inky Awards. Aida was a judge for the awards and got the opportunity to ask Shivaun a series of questions at this event. She did an amazing job asking some interesting questions and making all of us laugh at the answers Shivaun gave.
At a moment during the questions, Aida asked Shivaun if she could describe Tin Heart in 3 words, and like anyone put on the spot she was unable to do it sooo her mum shouted from the back “Buy the Book!” Which of course made everyone laugh so hard!
Event though it was a relatively small event, Shivaun made sure to try and approach everyone at the event and I really loved that she made that effort. I totally understand that not all authors can approach everyone in their crowds at launches but I wanted to point this out as it made me feel really special to have a chat and (an embarrassing) fangirl in front of her.
Upon entering the event area, Shivaun approached me and told me that she remembered my face from YA Day which was so shocked about because I just didn’t expect it. I mentioned that I purchased a book she recommended me on twitter, and she also remembered that! It makes any fan feel special 🙂
ASSIDE: I learnt a fair bit about the industry from the ladies who work at Inside a Dog, Melbourne Writers Festival, and Emerging Writers Festival. I really hope to do more in the industry and become more involved. I believe it will help my future endeavours in terms of public speaking, overall socialisation and contacts with people who I otherwise would never get to know.
OVERALL I had an amazing night, and if I was feeling sick during the day, I most definitely wasn’t when I got home that night!
