Heyo Bookaholics!
I hope this post makes up for the lack of review on Monday. I have not yet finished Storm and Grace by Kathryn Heyman, though I really hope to have it done by Next Monday.
Last night, thanks to Tracy, we were lucky enough to attend the YA Penguin Teen Showcase. At the event, they spoke of all the new books that are being released in the coming few months, and two Authors; Margot McGovern and Eleni Hale, spoke about the books Neverland and Stone Girl, their respective new releases.
When Margot spoke about Neverland, she was asked about the connection between the book and the fairytale Peter Pan of which it is based upon.
She spoke about how she was feeling homesick after moving to Melbourne from Adelaide and decided to pick up one of her favourite fairytales from her childhood; Peter Pan, though when she read the story, she noticed how dark and depressing the story was. The theme of death prominent throughout the story.
Listening to Margot speak, made me want to engulf myself in the new fairytale mix of a world in this coming of age story that she has created.

Eleni spoke next about her new book Stone Girl and it was a deeply touching speech as this book is based off of her own life experiences.
She was lovely to listen to. The way she talked about her time as a ward of the state and the fact that she had to become tough and grow up fast at such a young age was heartbreaking. During her time, she barely had an education and still had the will and want to be educated once she left the system which was so inspiring to listen to.
Eleni was asked if her story was too dark to be classified as Young Adult, and she answered in the best way by telling us that young people do not need to be sheltered and need to know of these stories as the events that the protagonist goes through in the book are experienced by people of all ages, even children much younger than Young Adult.

There were two more highlights of the night; the first of which included meeting Sarah from TheYARoom, as well as the PR team from Penguin Teen, and many other booktubers I hadn’t spoken to since the last book event ♡

The second highlight was the advanced screening of Love, Simon, which is the movie adaptation of Simon and The Homosapien Agenda, a book by Becky Albertalli.
Love, Simon will be out in cinemas on March 29th and all I can say is that I will definitely go and watch it many times over once it is out to the public.
We laughed. We cried. We cringed. We wowed. We cried some more. It was an emotional rollercoaster but the ending was all worth it. I am so going to pick up the book now and read it because I want to relive that beautiful experience I was gifted.
I want send out a huge thank you to Penguin Teen for hosting this event and giving myself and others the opportunity to socialise with other people who are in the bookish community as well as have a somewhat behind the scenes look into that goes on before a book is published and just having an overall enjoyable time at events like these.
