Mid-Year Book Freak Out 2017!

Mid-Year Book Freak Out 2017!

Hey Ho Bookaholics!

Today I present you with my Mid-Year Book Freak Out!! Especially since I’ve read just shy of 6 books in six months *inaudible gurgling noises* But in my defence I’ve been working on the dystopian book I am writing and I have been in some sort of reading slump. The kinda slump where I want to read and I can read but can’t read fast enough.

I found this tag on Hailey’s YouTube channel; HaileyInBookland. She changed a few of the questions to suit herself but I will keep the original questions, and maybe delete a few for convenience. I don’t know the true creator of this tag so if anyone does you can comment it below thank you.

Well lets not let me ramble any longer and get into the freak out!!

FREAK OUT!!!

Best Book You’ve Read So Far In 2017?

This is a tie between Fifth Avenue Artists Society by Joy Calloway and Lord Of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. Like I said, I haven’t read many books this year, but these two books have blown my mind. Although I’d assume that if I finished Nevernight by Jay Kristoff, then that would most definitely be the best book!

Best Sequel You Read In 2017?

Lord Of Shadows is the best and only sequel I have read this year, and Oh. My. Goshness. The feels are so so intense it has taken me so long to read this book that I am ashamed; and I am seeing all of Cassie’s spoilery posts on tumblr answering questions about the book, and not being able to read them is killing me. So I’ve been saving them all to my side blog: bethealectomagnus.

Sequel That Came Out This Year But You Haven’t Read Yet, But You Want To?

I really want to read A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Mass, as I’ve been wanting to read the ACOTAR series ever since it came out and to join in the hype. I even bought the exclusive edition to complete my hardback copies of the trilogy.

Most Anticipated Release(s) For Second Half Of The Year?

I haven’t been keeping up with new releases but I had a look on Goodreads but I looked up releases for the second half of 2017 on Goodreads and boy did I find books I NEED!

The third Magnus Chase book – Magnus Chase and The Ship Of The Dead – by Rick Riordan; Ringer by Lauren Oliver; and a companion book to the His Dark Materials Trilogy – La Belle Sauvage – by Phillip Pullman are all being released in early October and I could not be more excited!

Biggest Disappointment?

I was quite disappointed by Somewhere In The Shallow Sea by Dennis Macaraeg. I went into this book with already mild expectations as I has previously read a couple 2-3 star reviews on the book which dampened my spirits a little, but because I was sent this book for review I powered through. It was difficult as the way it was written gave the reader no want to keep reading, so I had no problem putting it down. You can read my full spoiler-free review here.

A Big Surprise?

The Things We Promise. The first review I read on this book was so negative, I think the girl gave it 2 stars, which lead me to believe the concepts aren’t morally correct. Naturally I kept reading the reviews for validation, coming across other negative comments; so I closed my computer and picked up the book. I was truly surprised at how wrong I think those reviewers are. Though I have not finished this book I am loving it and the review will be posted in the coming weeks.img 7624 - Mid-Year Book Freak Out 2017!

Favourite Debut Author?

Uhhh I’m boring and read old books not new books so I haven’t read any books from debut authors. Next question please.

Most Fictional Crush?

OMG SO HAVE WE ALL HEARD OF WILLIAM HERONDALE!? Of course everyone has, what a silly question; and like everyone else who has been blessed to meet him, I too have fallen for the Herondale charm with no regrets whatsoever. Where Raphael Santiago takes the cake for my favourite character in the series closely followed by Magnus Bane, Will is the ultimate boyfriend/ husband/ father/ lover anyone could ask for. Tessa was immensely lucky.

Newest Favourite Character?

Hmmm this is a hard one, but I think Drusilla Blackthorn. A strange choice I know, but I am very curious about her and what goes on in her mind. She is very quiet and easily forgotten by her older siblings that I feel sorry for her, and wish for her to have her own quirky storyline.

Book That Made You Cry?

Where I very rarely, if not ever cry in books, The Book Thief and Lord Of Shadows both brought tears to my eyes in their final scenes, but no other book has left me ugly crying like The Fifth Avenue Artists Society did. I don’t know what Joy Calloway put in that book, but whether it be a kilo of onions or just pure heartbreak, this was the first ever book that has brought me to tears, actual crying, nothing forced. And it felt good to just cry over something that wasn’t real but I had grown to love.

Favourite Video/ Blog Post You’ve Done This Year?

My favourite post – of the few I managed to post this half-year – would have to be one of the Storytime Wednesday posts titled: My Amazing Day and Other Stories by Yours Truly. It was a post that truly displayed how happy I was in a time of down days, and lead to me becoming progressively happier – a mood I wish to uphold through to the next year.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Gotten This Year?

Now this is a really hard one since I have bought so many, but where Lord Of Shadows is magnificent, Strange The Dreamer (the UK cover) by Lani Taylor is by far the most beautiful buy of the year so far!

What Books Do You Have To Read By The End Of The Year?

There are lots! The main ones are the 6 books I have received for review from Allen & Unwin a few months ago that I really need to catch up on, as well as the A Court Of Thorns And Roses trilogy by Sarah J. Mass which I purchased when ACOWAR was released.
