Gemina Book Launch and Signing

Gemina Book Launch and Signing

 Hey Ho Bookaholics!

Today the theme is blue, because I have some amazing Gemina news to share with you!

Last night I went to the Victorian State Library to attend the Book Launch for Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. I forced my dad to come along with me and he (surprisingly) enjoyed the event.

After I purchased my books – so I now own both Illuminae and Gemina – we sat down; Jay and Amie were introduced and spoke for about half-an-hour playing a truth or dare game with the host which was space related and we learned, that if you step out on Venus without a space suit you will be squashed flat!

The interview was quite exciting and we learned a few new things about Gemina! Jay said that Marie Lu who blurbed Illuminae, drew the images for Gemina which will appear in Hanna’s diary who likes to document her thoughts in a visual way. While talking about space and their astrophysicists – who helps them write the book – also let slip that she is worse at math than Jay (who isn’t too good himself). My favourite part was when Jay told us that he converted Amie over to the dark side!

At the end of the interview, Amie conducted a ‘Book Wave’ which was filmed by Jay, and I lent my copy of Illuminae to my dad so I could hold up Gemina.

There were BookTubers with their cameras in their little groups, I didn’t know there were people on BookTube from Melbourne and I would love to find out who they were but I was too shy to ask for their accounts. I’ve been trying to find some Melbourne/Australian BookTubers but it’s hard to just search YouTube for Melbourne BookTubers’ there are no results.

When it came to signing, I was in group number two and had to wait almost 45 minutes but it was totally worth it!

They gave us sticky notes to write our names on so Jay and Amie knew what to write on our books.

The both of them were very funny to talk to and quite sweet, especially Amie – who I had a longer conversation with while Jay was super concentrated signing my copy of Illuminae.

I asked (quite shyly) If I could take a photo of them signing my books and only Amie heard me, so she pulled funny faces for me and Jay was super confused 🙂

This has got to be the best photo I captured last night!

Dad and I left as soon as I got both of my books signed and got a photo with both Jay and Amie. I wanted to meet with a couple of people who I made friends with on Bookstagram, but we sadly were unable to meet up as we left at different times, but if you look at this photo on Jay’s Instagram:

My sticky note is the one at the bottom, I can tell because the ‘r’ on that sticky is the same as the ‘r’ in the photo I took above. I can also spot my Bookstagram friends name in the top left. She runs the blog abooktopia.weebly, where she reviews books and does giveaways!

.

This has been the best night of my life so far! Which is saying so much considering I have had a pretty eventful couple of weeks. This event tops even my graduation from 13 years of schooling! thank you so much Allen & Unwin, Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman, Victoria State Library, and everyone who put the whole event together. THANK YOU XXX

.

Thank You so much for reading and I hope to see you all again Saturday 🙂
