Unearthed Book Launch & Signing!!

Hey Ho Bookaholics!

This event, hosted by Allen & Unwin at the Dymocks on Collins St. in Melbourne, brought us – and by ‘us’ I mean the bookworms of Australia – our beloved Amie Kaufman, and the very first international author I have met; Meagan Spooner.

After a big day at work (8:30 – 5), dressed in my Gemina inspired outfit consisting of a full black jumpsuit (definitely not Danae Matresco), and heeled peep-toe boots; I met my friend at Flinder’s Street Station in the CBD, and for those of you who have never experienced Melbourne city in peak hour, or at any time of the day; it was a mess of people, cigarettes and thankfully a healthy police presence.

Fast forward an hour… and we were safely inside Dymocks, in the presence of the angels Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner who spoke for no longer than 15 minutes, with thanks being given to Amie’s primary school librarian who was present at the event, as well as both women thanking the ever-present Jay Kristoff for all his support in the creation of the book.

Meagan and Amie addressing the crowd (Meg cried).

Meagan told us that she studied Archeology, and wanted to be an archeologist until she realised that is was all about camping, getting dirty, and living in a hot dusty climate. Realising that sitting on a couch in an air conditioned room, writing about an archeologist sounded much more appealing than being an actual archeologist.

There was also a cake made by the same wonderful woman who made the cake for the Godsgrave and Nevernight events. I don’t remember her name but she is absolutely amazing.

Really cool cake

As said by Amie, the inspiration for Unearthed came when the two women were watching an Indiana Jones marathon in a hotel room, when they realised that there are no books in YA like the Indiana Jones series!

They made it their duty to be the people to deliver this to the YA community, and here we are years later holding the masterpiece in our hands.

Meagan, Myself and Amie at the signing table.

The signing line was super long, and the crowd was split up into 2-3 groups to ensure no one was standing in line forever; and surprisingly the line moved quite quickly, though no one was rushed.

Below is a screenshot of Amie’s instagram post, and I love saving these because I usually find my name in the photo (top right corner).

I cannot wait to read this book, and there WILL be a review on my blog after I’ve read it!

Overall it was an amazing night and it was wonderful to have met an American author, and hear Amie Kaufman speak for the third time in two years.

I feel so blessed to have these experiences, and be able to meet authors, fellow bookworms, and people in the industry. Thank  you Allen & Unwin and Dymocks for hosting these events and I hope to attend more in the future.

Stay Happy, Healthy, and have a Lovely Week!!

. Thank You so much for reading and I hope to see you all back here again Saturday 🙂 bree xoxo - Unearthed Book Launch & Signing!!
